We always want to make things simple, especially when it comes to choosing and using your benefits. Read on to learn the truth behind five common Open Enrollment myths.
Myth #1: I don’t need to do anything before Open Enrollment.
You need to prepare for Open Enrollment — but don’t worry, it’s easy! Head to ADPTotalSource.adp.com and double check that your contact info is accurate. This will ensure you receive deadline reminders and personalized enrollment videos that outline your options, lead you through the process, and help you confirm your benefits.
Myth #2: I can change my benefits whenever I want.
You might notice that we make a big deal about Open Enrollment every spring. That’s because it’s your once-a-year opportunity to update your benefits. Outside of Open Enrollment, you can only update your benefits if you experience a “qualifying life event,” such as a marriage, birth or adoption.
Myth #3: Enrolling is complicated and time-consuming.
Actually, it’s never been easier!
Our enrollment email experience starts a few weeks before your enrollment period to elect your benefits for the coming Plan Year (June 1 to May 31). They’re packed with personalized videos, helpful resources, dates when you can enroll and your deadline.
That’s your cue to visit your ADPTotalSource.adp.com profile and sign up.
Also, to better help you select your coverage, there’s a time-saving tool you can use, found at the beginning of the Open Enrollment process – Help Me Choose.
Help Me Choose offers online benefits recommendations based on your employer offerings to help you find the best fit for your unique needs by:
- Getting personalized support and benefits recommendations to help you get matched with a customized benefits package.
- Saving time and energy during enrollment.
- Peace of mind knowing exactly what benefits package fits you best.

Remember to enroll as soon as your window opens, as missing the enrollment date could mean you’ll be automatically enrolled in equivalent plans that may not be the best fit for you.
Myth #4: I have to enroll from my computer.
Spread the word! For the first time ever, you can enroll in ADP TotalSource® benefits from your phone. Just download the ADP® Mobile App, available at adp.com/mobile. This app also allows you to easily access your Forms W-2, manage your pay and more.
Myth #5: I have to figure it all out for myself.
We’re here to help! We know Open Enrollment can feel overwhelming, but you’ve got access to helpful resources and tools to ensure you get the right coverage:
- Your ADP TotalSource profile is your first stop for all things benefits, like our Help Me Choose support tool mentioned above.
- Our Summary Plan Description has detailed information on different plan coverage options, such as eligibility, plan options, voluntary benefits and more.
